CHICAGO PUBLIC LIBRARY FOUNDATION
Night in the Stacks
Harold Washington Library Center
In 2014, CF&A was brought on to help the Junior Board of the Chicago Public Library Foundation shape its first major fundraising event. Night in the Stacks transforms the Harold Washington Library’s Wintergarden into a nightclub with a DJ, dancing, cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. CF&A leveraged its relationship with the Foundation’s Carl Sandburg Literary Awards Dinner vendors to secure in-kind support of more than $40,000 to make this elaborate event possible. The event has featured a number of activations ranging from costumed
superheroes interacting with guests (which tied into that year’s theme and One Book One Chicago selection), the Library’s Maker Lab showcasing its 3D printing capabilities to make figurines of guests, and an interactive photo booth with GIFs to encourage social media sharing. CF&A continues to work on the event, which has sold out in advance every year.
